Irish Whiskey Cheddar Soda Bread: added Irish whiskey cheddar, sage and whole wheat for extra color and flavor. Serve this bread warm.

Ingredients
1 1/2cupswhite wheat flour
1/2cupall-purpose flour
1teaspoonbaking soda
1/2teaspoonsalt
1/2teaspoonpepper
2cupsIrish cheddar with whiskeygrated
2tablespoonssagefinely chopped
1cupbuttermilk
1egg
Instructions
Heat oven to 425 degrees F. and lightly grease and flour a Dutch oven or line with parchment paper. (NOTE 1)
In a bowl milk together all the dry ingredients , grated cheese and sage. Keep a little bit of cheese behind to cover the top of the cheese. In a separate bowl mix buttermilk and egg and whisk until mixed.
Add buttermilk mixture to dry ingredients and mix until you have a sticky dough that you form as a ball.
Place dough ball on a floured surface and knead lightly, just enough to make sure that all is well mixed. Form a round bread.
Place the bread in the Dutch oven. Use a knife and cut a cross in the top of the bread.
Cover pan and bake for 30 minutes. Remove cover, sprinkle left over cheese on top of bread and bake for another 15 minutes.
Allow bread to cool before slicing and serve with butter.

You can also bake the bread on a baking sheet, lined with parchment paper.
